About Best Techs

How it Works

Employment Model (No 1099s)

 

Bandit Lites does not use 1099 contractors. All Best Techs are hired as W-2 contracted employees through Best Techs and are covered by Workers’ Compensation and General Liability Insurance.
 

This provides protection, transparency, and a professional working relationship.

  • Two-part interview (skillset + mentality)
     
  • Mandatory background check & drug screening
     
  • In-shop evaluation to assess real-world competency before placement on projects.

 Best Techs are trusted, vetted freelance lighting technicians who support Bandit Lites on a project-by-project basis. You’ll work alongside full-time crew on tours, corporate productions, festivals, and live shows while maintaining Bandit’s high standards for quality, safety, and professionalism. 

 Bandit Lites does not hire any 1099 contractors. All Best Techs are W-2 contracted employees through Best Techs, hired on a project to project basis through a Terms of Assignment Contract

 All applicants must live in the Nashville area or plan on relocating to the Nashville area in order to apply. 

 Candidates must have proven lighting experience, strong teamwork skills, and a professional mindset. Applicants must be comfortable working at heights, and they will need to obtain a valid passport for potential international work. All applicants complete a two-part interview, a background check, a drug screening, and an in-shop evaluation before working on a show or tour. 

 It certainly can be! Many Best Techs begin as freelancers and, through demonstrated performance and alignment with Bandit’s standards, transition into full-time roles. When you become full-time, you gain all the benefits, perks, and support that come with being a permanent Bandit technician. 

 Best Techs support a variety of events, including national tours, corporate productions, live shows, and local events. You’ll gain exposure to diverse setups and workflows while collaborating with Bandit’s full-time crews. 

 Assignments are project-based. Frequency depends on production schedules, your availability, and skillset. Because of Bandit Lites’ strict quality standards, Best Techs who learn, embrace, and perform according to how Bandit works tend to be retained and called on much more frequently than freelancers at other firms.
